History
- Vincent Motorcycles began with the purchase of HRD Motorcycles by Phil Vincent in 1928.
- Vincent's were manufactured in Britain from 1928-1955, their first USA dealership was only opened in 1944 by Eugene Aucott in the city of Philadelphia.
- The Vincent Black Shadow, easily recognised by its black engine and gearbox, is said to have been one of the top performance motorcycles of the 1950s, capable of speeds up to 125 mph.
- Greater success was achieved with the “Black Lightning” which was a racing version of the Black Shadow. The Black Lightening was known as the World's Fastest Standard Motorcycle, proven by
Rollie Free, who in 1948 raised the motorcycle speed record to 150.313 mph on Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats.
- Approximately 30 Vincent Black Lightning’s were built between 1949 and 1952. Available by special order they sold for $1,500.
- Despite successful record attempts, due to heavy financial losses, the company discontinued motorcycle production by 1955. The last Vincent to come off the production line was fittingly named "The Last."
