History

• The Ariel Company dates back to 1847.
• The first Ariel to be fitted with an engine was in 1898, basically a Tricycle with a 2.25 hp engine mounted to the rear.
• It was in 1936 that Ariel acquired the famous Triumph motorcycle company.
• In 1949 the Mark 1 Square Four was released which was capable of doing over 90 mph.
• Following on from the Mark 1, in 1953 the Mark 2 Square Four was released, with a redesigned cylinder head; it was capable of doing over a 100mph.
• Ariel and Triumph were sold to the Birmingham Small Arms Company group (BSA) in 1951.
• By 1967 Ariel motorcycles had ceased production.

The AMCNA is open to anyone who owns or is interested in Ariel Motorcycles. As a member you receive a copy of our “Spirit of the Air” newsletter which is published bi-monthly and contains technical tips, classified ads, restoration advice, letters from the members and a complete calendar of upcoming events.

The Ariel Motorcycle Club of South Australia

The Ariel MCC of SA is one of the oldest Adelaide based motorcycle clubs, established in 1928. Its name derives from the English Ariel motorcycle of the 1900's to the late 1960's whose logo refers to the iron-horse. Many events were held at Sellicks Beach up until the 1940's or 50's. The Club was incorporated in June 1963.
